An evening concert titled Rolla János 80 will be held on September 30th at the Óbudai Társaskör, with performances by renowned musicians such as Barnabás Kelemen, Miklós Perényi, and Ferenc Fegya Jávori.
This concert pays tribute to János Rolla, the Kossuth Prize-winning violinist who passed away last year. Former colleagues, including composer and pianist Ferenc Fegya Jávori, violinist Bence Gazda, and cellist Máté Tomasz, will honor him. Barnabás Kelemen (violin) and Miklós Perényi (cello) will also perform as soloists with the Anima Musicae Chamber Orchestra, the event’s organizers announced to MTI.
János Rolla was the concertmaster of the Liszt Ferenc Chamber Orchestra for over fifty years and served as its artistic director from 1979 until his retirement. He gained international acclaim as a chamber musician, collaborating with renowned figures such as Isaac Stern, Mstislav Rostropovich, Maurice André, Jean-Pierre Rampal, and Helmuth Rilling.
From 2008 until his passing, Rolla taught at the Liszt Academy of Music. His numerous accolades include the Distinguished Artist Award (1981), the Kossuth Prize (1985), the Hungarian Order of Merit Commander’s Cross (1994), the Order of Merit Commander’s Cross with Star (2004), the Hazám Award (2011), and the Weiner Leó Award (2015).
In 1991, he was awarded the French Legion of Honour.
János Rolla would have turned 80 this year. The commemorative concert will feature personal recollections from András Bánó, with János Mácsai hosting the evening.
